Escaping The Trap

Not every shaking is demonic. Some shakings are God separating you for Himself.

There are moments when life shakes, relationships shift, and sudden disruptions appear. The instinct of many believers is to assume that opposition or attack has arrived. Yet this message reveals that not every disturbance is an attack—some are movements of God designed to separate, expose, and preserve. The shaking exposes hidden people, hidden motives, and hidden traps that can hinder your destiny. Escaping the trap begins with understanding the nature of the shaking and what God is trying to reveal through it.

These study notes are drawn directly from the sermon Escaping The Trap, delivered on 14 November 2020:

Study Notes

1. The Shaking of God (Amos 9:9)

“For lo, I will command and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.”

Key points given:

  • The number one thing that destroys many believers is misinterpreting a God-sent shaking as an attack.

  • When God brings shaking:

    • He is separating you from people who cannot go where you are going.

    • He is removing those who drain you but do not benefit you.

    • He is exposing what could not be exposed in calm seasons.

  • “The mark of a child of God is released to separate you.”

  • If you cannot endure being separated, you have not fully embraced belonging to God.

Corn ear and sieve filter golden kernels in sunlit, cloudy sky. Warm yellows convey a serene, ethereal atmosphere.

The shaking is not meant to:

  • Destroy you

  • Break you

  • Scatter you

The shaking IS meant to:

  • Remove wrong people

  • Expose hidden enemies

  • Secure you for God’s use

  • Bring clarity about your own heart

2. Why the Shaking Must Happen

The message explains that some demons and some people will never be exposed until a shaking happens.

Examples given:

  • In Egypt, two wizards traveled with the children of Israel all the way out of captivity.

  • These were the same men who influenced Israel to make a golden calf.

  • Moses never named them, but Paul later revealed their names: Jannes and Jambres.

Bullet points:

  • These men were “among the people of God,” yet they were the ones giving Moses the most trouble.

  • They were unnoticed until shaking came.

  • A shaking reveals who is truly for you and who has been pretending.

Silhouettes of two people amidst a golden wheat field, bathed in warm sunlight with a soft, dreamy atmosphere.

Direct teaching:

  • “There are certain demons that will never be exposed because you pray. Those demons will only be revealed when there is a shaking.”

3. Trouble Reveals the Heart

Statements the speaker emphasized repeatedly:

  • “Trouble does not come to destroy a believer. Trouble comes to reveal the heart of a believer.”

  • When God shakes you, it:

    • Reveals your priorities

    • Reveals what you truly trust

    • Exposes areas you have not surrendered

    • Shows what is hiding inside you

    • Shows what is hiding around you

Example:

  • Job was attacked by the devil, but Job was not shaken.

  • God’s shaking is different; it is always intentional and redemptive.

4. The Viper Revealed (Acts 28:1–3)

Scripture reading:

  • When Paul gathered sticks and placed them on a fire, a viper came out of the heat and fastened onto his hand.

  • The fire was already burning.

  • Paul added more wood → heat increased → hidden viper appeared.

Revelation explained:

  • Some people appear to be “on fire,” but their fire produces no heat.

  • Only when God increases the heat does the viper hiding inside emerge.

  • A fire that does not produce heat cannot expose snakes.

Bullet points:

  • The viper attacked Paul’s hand—the place of productivity.

  • Many cannot move forward because a viper bites their “hand” when the heat increases.

  • When God adds heat:

    • Hidden enemies show up

    • Secret haters manifest

    • People begin to act strangely

    • Those who were silent suddenly attack without reason

Direct lines from the explanation:

  • “Some people you think are on fire until you add fire.”

  • “Unless God shakes you, vipers will never show up.”

5. The Shaking Separates Fire Without Heat

Main observations:

  • A fire that produces no heat is comfort without transformation.

  • Many stay around fires that look spiritual but have no substance.

  • When God adds heat, atmosphere changes.

Bullet points:

  • Heat brings separation.

  • Heat exposes fake spirituality.

  • Heat reveals who really belongs to you.

  • Heat reveals who is truly walking with God.

Key line:

  • “You are looking for comfort in a place where there is fire but there is no heat.”

6. Understanding the Three Kinds of Sin (Amos 9:10)

Scripture:

“All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword.”

The teaching outlines three dimensions of sin:

1. Sin against God

  • Breaking God’s law.

  • Rejecting His ways.

2. Sin against your own body

  • Not taking care of yourself.

  • Failing to pray.

  • Failing to eat right.

  • Defiling your body.

  • Smoking or damaging your health.

3. Sin against a person

  • Doing evil to someone who has been good to you.

  • Returning negativity to someone who blessed you.

Clarifications given:

  • Being offended ≠ someone sinning against you.

  • People can be offended by anything (“even how you look”).

Key statement:

  • “The most dangerous thing you can ever do is sin against a person.”
