The true battleground of the spirit is never only in actions, events, or circumstances. It is always between altars — places where spiritual transactions, covenants, and declarations are made. This teaching unveils the reality of altars, the conflict between opposing altars, and the responsibility of the believer to know which altar empowers and speaks for them.

These study notes are based on the sermon “Altar vs Altar,” preached by Dr. Lovy L. Elias.

1. What an Altar Truly Is

An altar is a place of exchange.

An altar is where the spiritual meets the natural.

An altar is where covenants are enforced.

An altar is a meeting point between two realms.

Every altar has a voice, and every altar speaks.

2. Every Life Operates Under an Altar

Whether you know it or not, you are functioning under an altar.

No one lives without an altar influencing them.

An altar is what empowers a person.

Your life reveals the altar that is backing you.

3. Two Altars Cannot Back You at the Same Time

You cannot have two altars speaking for you.

You cannot mix altars and expect clarity.

The altar you submit to is the altar that manifests in your life.

Double altars create double voices, and confusion follows.

4. Altars Are Not Physical First — They Are Spiritual

An altar is not first a physical place; it is spiritual before it is physical.

Many people think altars are objects, but the spiritual reality is deeper.

The physical structure only represents the spiritual foundation behind it.

The power of an altar is in the spirit behind it.

5. Altars Carry Voices

Every altar has a voice.

Altars speak blessings or curses.

Altars speak life or destruction.

Altars speak destiny or deviation.

The voice of an altar can speak long after the builder is gone.

A soft watercolor landscape showing two mountains symbolizing opposing altars—one glowing warmly in golden light, the other shadowed in dark tones with a faint red glow—separated by a misty valley that highlights the contrast between divine and demonic altars.

6. Altars Demand Sacrifice

Every altar demands sacrifice.

Sacrifice is what fuels an altar.

Without sacrifice, an altar is silent.

Your sacrifice determines the strength of the altar backing you.

A watercolor scene of a single wooden altar on a peaceful hilltop at dawn, illuminated by rising golden light symbolizing divine alignment and covenant.

7. The First Battle in Scripture Was Altar vs Altar

Cain and Abel were not fighting each other; it was altar against altar.

God responded to Abel’s altar because his sacrifice was accepted.

Cain’s altar had no voice because his sacrifice had no weight.

The fight started because altars spoke different things.

8. God Responds to Altars, Not Emotions

God responds to altars, not emotions.

God responds to sacrifices, not complaints.

Many pray, but nothing moves because the altar behind the prayer is weak.

Powerful altars move heaven.

9. The Altar You Build Determines the God You Encounter

Your altar reveals your revelation of God.

If your altar is casual, your encounters will be casual.

If your altar is deep, your encounters will be deep.

Your altar shows how much of God you truly want.

10. The Stronger Altar Always Overrules the Weaker One

When altars clash, the stronger one wins.

The altar with greater sacrifice speaks louder.

The altar with greater obedience prevails.

Victory is determined by whose altar has more weight in the spirit.

11. Power Behind an Altar Determines Its Influence

An altar is only as strong as the power behind it.

The source of the altar determines the manifestation.

An altar built unto God carries God’s voice.

An altar built unto darkness carries the voice of darkness.

12. Altars Are Activated by Consistency

An altar gains strength through consistency.

What you do repeatedly empowers the altar you submit to.

Consistency in prayer strengthens an altar.

Consistency in disobedience strengthens another altar.

13. Every Family Has an Altar

Every family has an altar speaking over it.

Some altars were built generations ago.

Some altars still demand outcomes in the present.

What you see repeating in a family often comes from an ancestral altar.

14. Altars Shape Patterns

Patterns reveal altars.

Cycles reveal altars.

Repetitions reveal altars.

If something keeps happening in a lineage, an altar is behind it.

15. Not All Altars Are Visible

Some altars are hidden but active.

Some altars were built through words.

Some altars were built through actions.

Some altars were built through agreements and covenants.

16. An Altar Must Be Challenged by Another Altar

You do not break an altar by shouting; you break it by raising a stronger altar.

Altars confront altars.

When a greater altar rises, the weaker one collapses.

Victory always belongs to the altar with superior weight.

17. The Altar of God Speaks Through Obedience

Obedience carries spiritual weight.

Obedience amplifies the voice of your altar.

You can inherit an altar without choosing it.

Family altars influence descendants automatically.

Inherited altars can either bless or limit.

A believer must identify inherited altars and confront them.

23. You Cannot Destroy an Altar You Don’t Identify
